Have you ever been to Casa Bonita in Lakewood, Colorado? It combines Mexican food with cliff divers, an indoor waterfall, piñatas, and a haunted cave. It’s an unusual place that’s worth a visit. (More about Casa Bonita.) I used to take my family once or twice a year, but it closed during Covid and is only back because the creators of South Park couldn’t bear to see it die.
Casa Bonita was our first stop on this year’s fall retreat, and everybody loved it. As you likely know, the Baker Tax Law team works remotely across the country. So we pick a place to meet up in person each year, and this year we chose Colorado.
Much of the rest of the week involved eating our way around Denver and Boulder and catching up with friends in the legal, accounting, and venture capital communities. Calls and email are useful, but it’s nice to sit down for a meal with the people you work with all year.
Brian Rogers and Lisa Okragly led a lunch-and-learn on qualified small business stock at a client’s office. We also held our annual State of the Firm meeting.
We caught a Rockies–Padres game at Coors Field and had dinners at Dear Emilia and Safta.
On Friday, we split into groups for two escape rooms. Both teams escaped in time, and only one team had to break a puzzle to do so.
Thanks to everyone who joined us!
